YouTube clone based on its 2011 interface. The page is updated according to the progress of time, so it allows to visualize the evolution of YouTube over time. Created by Jan, I joined the development team in 2021, and from 2023 onwards I worked on several major updates.

You now will see some of the most important updates that I have developed in the website over time.

Late 2008 - Early 2009 Layout Update (31.12.2021)

A small CSS update to adapt it to the late '08 - early '09 layout.

Mid - Late 2009 Layout Update (09.04.2023)

After a period in which the site was being managed by incapable people, we managed to restore order to the site and start with the development of important updates. A lot of code was cleaned up and features were introduced over the weeks, such as Theater Mode.

Partner Program (01.05.2023)

One of the most requested features. If your channel is over 75 subscribers, you can opt for the BitView Partner Program, which initally let you add a banner to your channel, and its options were expanded over time.

Multilanguage Support (29.05.2023)

Another essential update. Added support for multiple languages, with translations made by community members. As of February 2025 the following languages are available on the site: German, Catalan, Serbian, English (US, UK and Canada), Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Esperanto, French, Galician, Croatian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Custom Thumbnails (29.05.2023)

Exclusive feature for partners, allows to set an image file as a video thumbnail.

HD Videos (27.06.2023)

Partners can now upload 720p videos longer than 30 minutes (extended to one hour in 2024).

Persistent sessions (21.07.2023)

Another update much requested by site users. It allows to keep the session logged in for longer periods of time, as previously the session was closed when the page was closed.

Home page improvements (06.08.2023)

Several modules are added to the home page, such as a recommended videos section, popular videos, friends activity and a new experimental home page known as “The Feed”. In addition, it is allowed to select which modules to be seen on the home page, and subsequently added the ability to reorder them as the user desires.

BitView Feather Mode (24.08.2023)

Lighter watch page for slower internet connections.

Comment Ratings (28.08.2023)

Allows to indicate if you like a comment, also, if a comment receives many negative votes it becomes hidden. For this purpose, an option to mark a comment as “spam” has also been added.

Channel 2.0 (22.10.2023)

Personally, my favorite update. A complete redesign of the channels that made them more comprehensive, it was optional for one month, after which it would become the channel design for all users.

QuickList (30.10.2023)

Allows to add quickly videos to a list to be watched later on the session.

User Settings (23.11.2023)

Settings that honestly I don't know why they took so long to be added. Allows the user to change their password, username or delete their account.

Insight (05.01.2024)

Allows to view statistics both for the channel in general and for a particular video.

January 2010 Layout Update (28.01.2024)

Small aesthetic update, adapts to the January - March 2010 YouTube design.

E-Mail Verification (19.02.2024)

Prevents user account spam by adding a verification step in order to access BitView features.

New Video Upload Page (22.02.2024)

Redesign of the video upload page, allowing to view the upload progress of a video while editing video details at the same time, as well as having a preview of the video at the end of the upload and having the possibility to cancel the upload.

April 2010 Layout Update (01.04.2024)

Total redesign of the page, with a new design adapted to that of YouTube in April 2010. The video page is completely redesigned, with a new like/dislike rating system instead of the 5-star system previously present. Other redesigned pages include user video pages, such as “My Videos”, with a completely new design.

New Video Player (04.04.2024)

New video player layout, recreated from the Flash player present in YouTube between 2010 and 2011.

Video Annotations (03.06.2024)

One of the most requested features over the years. It allows the user to add annotations to the video as desired, allowing the user to add additional information or link to channels, videos and playlists.

Unlisted Videos (25.08.2024)

Another much requested feature. It adds another privacy option for videos, apart from “public” and “private”. In this privacy option, the videos do not appear anywhere on the web page, but anyone can see them as long as they have the link to the video.

Improvements in the video reporting system (27.08.2024)

Allows users to add reasons why a video is inappropriate for the site, making moderators' jobs easier.

Video Age Restriction (27.08.2024)

Videos that contain content suitable for the website but not for all ages are blocked and an age-appropriate account is required to access them.

Block Users (28.08.2024)

Allows you to block a user from interacting with your channel.

Late 2010 Layout Update (12.11.2024)

New header and footer and new browse page.
